The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is formulating guidelines for the development of a low-carbon economy, reports Shanghai Securities News, citing information from the NDRC on March 10.
The guidelines will determine which cities will become the pilot areas for the development of a low-carbon economy.
In addition, it will strengthen the development of low-carbon related industries, including emerging sectors and upgrades of traditional industries.
The electricity generation, oil and chemical industries are likely to be included in the plan.
China had pledged to voluntarily reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2020 at the Copenhagen Conference last December.
